Man accused of breaking sister’s hand to get psych assessment
A St James man who reportedly beat his sister with a broom and broke her hand last August is to get a psychiatric assessment before his next appearance in the St James Parish Court on June 14.
Davian Warren, of a John's Hall address, is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm. He was given the new court date by presiding judge Sandria Wong-Small when his case was mentioned on Wednesday, May 29.
The court was told that the complainant had previously indicated an unwillingness to proceed with the case. However, Wong-Small said that Warren should undergo assessment before the matter can be removed from the court's case list.
"I need the doctor to confirm a final assessment before removing the matter from the list because even though he looks better, I cannot rely on my eyes. I hope to get something in writing from the doctor, so he (Warren) is to be evaluated," Wong-Small said before extending Warren's bail to June 14.
Allegations are that on August 25, 2018, the complainant left her phone to charge, but when she returned later, she discovered that it was missing. She then confronted Warren about the phone's whereabouts, of which he denied any knowledge.
Warren then started a fire, which the complainant quickly extinguished. A fight broke out between the two, during which the complainant used a piece of steel to damage two windows on Warren's house nearby. He responded by hitting her with a broom, causing her to fall and break her hand.
A report was made to the police, and Warren was subsequently arrested and charged.
