JLP supporters fall from JUTC bus
Jubilance almost turned into sorrow yesterday when two supporters from the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) fell from a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus that was transporting them to the National Arena for the party's 76th annual conference.
Managing Director of JUTC Paul Abrahams said information was sketchy but his team is investigating the incident.
"I briefly heard about it and the matter is being investigated right now. I am not sure what took place, but my accident and investigation team is probing it but I have not got a report as yet," he said.
The police said that two men, ages 18 and 20, of McCooks Pen, St Catherine, addresses, fell from the bus and had to be taken to hospital. One of the men suffered a broken toe and the other has complained of backache. Both sustained cuts and bruises from the fall.
The incident happened in front of Immaculate High School on Constant Spring Road in Kingston. The driver is scheduled to make the report to the police today.
Ahead of the conference on Friday, the police said it would have taken a zero-tolerance stance to breaches of the Road Traffic Act. Last night they said that some drivers were prosecuted for traffic violations.
